Leadership

Leadership is an inward journey, with outward results.

Leading people and organizations requires bravery, heart, and grit. It requires intentionality and the willingness to see and invest the potential in people first—resulting in a fully-functioning, effective organization.

The organization’s potential is ultimately the sum of its parts.

Work Experience

I have gained my leadership experience over 20 years working with educational non-profits of various sizes including the Monterey Bay Aquarium and MEarth.

If we want people to fully show up, to bring their whole selves including their unarmored, whole hearts—so that we can innovate, solve problems, and serve people—we have to be vigilant about creating a culture in which people feel safe, seen, heard, and respected.

Board Experience

I joined the Friends of Camp SEA Lab in 2006, helping to shape the strategic vision for fundraising and support for this amazing program.

“First Who ... Then What. We expected that good-to-great leaders would begin by setting a new vision and strategy. We found instead that they first got the right people on the bus, the wrong people off the bus, and the right people in the right seats—and then they figured out where to drive it. The old adage “People are your most important asset” turns out to be wrong. People are not your most important asset. The right people are.”
